THE WALKING DEAD: THE FINAL SEASON
Telltale uses a notification and dialogue UI system that has been standardized since some of their earliest games. For The Walking Dead: The Final Season we wanted to disrupt the traditional layout a little bit while still maintaining the “Telltale feel”. We used 9-slice textures to help create variations of grunge background effects for text that fit the overall art style for the game and remapped certain UI elements in ways they hadn't been used in previous titles to help further differentiate unrelated ideas. For the notification icons, I played with the idea of re-purposing the semiotics of road signs to convey each of our game systems as it was required.
